Fransisca Masika is one of 11 women that were chosen for the Mandela Washington Fellows this year. Francisca is the director and owner of Nature Responsible Safari Company, a travel company based in Arusha that incorporates exposure to local projects that benefit local communities. Projects include a health outreach program with a mobile clinic, and a support system for women that educates them in the fair sale of their crafts to tourists. “We help women adjacent to national parks by adding value to their crafts.”
Inspired by her own marriage at the young age of 19 to a husband who supported her education through a university degree, Francisca has used her company to create the Responsible Foundation. Her foundation provides support to women whose education are interrupted, most often due to pregnancy, and helps them finish school.
Francisca is careful not to impose her own ideas into the women she is helping: her goal is to empower them through further education and exploration of their own choice.
